Anyone here own a KZ750-L Model?
01 Mar 2015 10:25
If someone here has access to a KZ750-L model I would be interested in learning what rim sizes are actually cast into the stock rims. Thanks, Ed

What makes the "L" series an L series, going to the motorcycle junk yard later this week and was wondering what I should keep an eye out for. If I see one I can check it for you, just let Me know.

Thanks!
Here's a picture of a 1982 KZ750-L model. I believe all the KZ750-L models had the same basic configuration; they made them for 3 or 4 years. Ed

Yeah but what difference does that make besides the one side of it? All I am saying is that the spectre rims are the same design, not that they are the exact same rim. May be the same size because of the cost savings of only having one line making them then having some anodized and others painted and buffed.

Re: Anyone here own a KZ750-L Model?
06 Mar 2015 03:35 - 06 Mar 2015 03:38There was an 83 750-L3 in the US. The old Kaw diagrams listed it as a 750 Sports.barney wrote: If you are in the states it would be a KZ700. Canada KZ750L
Although very similar, the 84 KZ700 is an A1.
mbsween.bike-night KZ750L3 page
The scanned micro-fiches show the same Rr wheel part number as the Partzilla diagrams & it is the same as various standard models, including the 750E; but the Fr wheel part number is different & the cross-ref at partzilla doesn't have any model info for it (41073-1139-21). The actual wheel sizes are not listed.

Re: Anyone here own a KZ750-L Model?

The reason I ask what the rim sizes are is that Kawasaki lists metric tire sizes for the KZ650-L.
There has been quite a bit of discussion about what metric size tires should be used on older KZ models that came with tires measured in inches. So, if the rim widths on the KZ750-L are the same as those of many earlier KZ models, such as the KZZ650-B & C models, it stands to reason that the metric size tires recommended for the KZ750-L would be appropriate for the earlier models that share the same rim width.
The rim widths of the KZ650 B & C are 1.85-19 front and 2.15x18 rear. I suspect, but need verification, that those of the KZ750-L are the same. The KZ750-L came with 100/90-19 front and 120/90-18 rear tires (see image below). If the rim widths match between the models it would be good information to pass along to those folks who are trying to decide what size tires to buy for their earlier model KZ's. Ed

I would expect the Spectre rims to be different from a standard (or "L"). The Spectre was a cruiser type model, which normally would get a smaller diameter, but fatter rim in back.
(off topic, but that orange-red on black is still my favorite color scheme. even better when it has the displacement on the tail and a 3-tone fade.)

The L1 looks very similar to the GPz750R1. Very cool and underrated bikes.
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but apart from the Ltd cruiser and 1100R models, all the last generation 400/500/550/650/700/750/1000/1100 twin-shock 8 valver fours used the same 7 spoke mag wheels. Some had rear drum brakes.
The sizes being 1.85 x 19 F and 2.15 x 18 R . the exception to this rule being the wider rear rim on the later GPz , J, R models...from 2.15 to 2.50 rear... but they look the same.
+1 Lou, yes the early , z550 z750 , 1000J with it's three tone orange on black graphics is very retro cool. I predict an 'out of fashion' look that will return with restorations in the future trying to look original but a bit different.

Yeah I don't see too many of the 550's with that color scheme. I only know of one around my area.
Obviously the one big difference would be the 82/83 KZ550H1/H2 Gpz's. They used 5 spoke wheels.
I thought the 750 wheels were wider than the 550 wheels, but I could be wrong.
