Fender suggestions?
05 Feb 2015 17:43 - 05 Feb 2015 21:31
So im helping a buddy build a 1980 KZ750 twin. The PO trashed pretty much everything you can on a bike, including cutting off the rear part of the frame. He wants a rear fender on there. After heading over to the local bike salvage, the best we could find was this honda fender for $10. Its OK but it doesn't match the 1000LTD front fender I gave him.
Do you guys have any suggestions for a bike model I could get a used fender off of? Ideally it would be 6" wide and have a bead rolled edge, like the LTD front fender. If so much of the budget wasn't going to fixing other things He would just buy one from Low brow, but $170 for a fender isn't happening right now. Looking for something like this . www.lowbrowcustoms.com/p3473/buy/m-c-par...er-for-18-inch-tires

I guess I should clarify... He doesn't want to return to the KZ750 tail cowl, he is wanting to make the rear look something like a Brat Style bike, since the rear is hacked its probably a bit easier to do this then to return to stock. I have a 1000LTD rear fender we tried and it is not going to hack it. Because it was designed to work with a tail cowl it is real boxy on top and too short. Looking for something that kinda follows the tires radius. this is kinda the look he is going for, except a bit longer fender and use the stock seat pan... and use real tires

The 81-on Ltd/CSR models & some from 1980 did not have the plastic tail cover, so you could check out some of those. You're probably going to have to compare fenders from a variety of KZ models spanning quite a few years to figure it out.
Here's a 440 fender. 1979-1983 Kawasaki Rear Fender-Fits-KZ440 / KZ 400 / H1 / LTD

THe LTD front fender is very round, the 440 fender is pretty nice but its a bit boxy. So I went on ebay and searched for "motorcycle rear fender" and waded through the pages and pages of results. I really like the XL250 fender but its plastic. The best match I have come up with is the rear fender off a XS650, its got the bead rolled edge and is pretty round like the LTD fender. Im waiting to get some dimensions from the seller before committing. thanks for the responses guys
