1983 kz 750 brake rotor replacements
14 Dec 2014 18:35
Hello all. New to this forum. Working on a cafe project using (as far as i can tell) 1983 kz 750 cast wheels. The rotors are pretty tired and need replacement. Any one have advice on other disc rotors from compatible models/years that will fit?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Why not use the correct ones?

Just casting a wider net, i understand many parts are interchangeable on the 80's kz's. "Correct" ones would be best of course.

I suggest you just have yours properly resurfaced. Here's the place - $45 each. Ed

It helps to mention the exact model. Guessing it's an 83 KZ750-L3.
According to the cross-reference info at Partzilla, the L3 has the same front brake disks as a number of models, including the Kawasaki Vulcan VN750 thru 2004. Same part numbers.
From comparing eebbaayy photos, the KZ & VN rotors look the same.
The Rr disk was used on most of the KZ700/750-4s & a GPz550 (the Vulcan has a Rr drum brake).

The bikes a bit of a frankenbike sweep-the-shop-floor basket case (cb550 frame and engine, some 350 parts and kz wheels and rear brake) so im really just guessing based on online detective work on exact model. Great info though. Thank you

Took them as far as service limit would allow.. Should be good for a few more miles though before outright replacement. Anyone look into the idea of custom cnc for " brand new" kawasaki pattern rotors? My front caliper and fork is off a cb550, i should actually be using 10 mm larger diameter discs.
