Front Brake Clunk at any speed was created by Grnole
Hey yall.

I recently noticed a "clunk" noise that only happens when I apply my front brake. Has anyone else ever experienced this in a KZ? It seems to happen at any speed / gear, and only when I apply the front brake.

I have a 1980 KZ1000.

Doubtless, someone more knowlegible than myself will chime in, but I would get to the bottom of this ASAP...Caliper mounting bolts tight? Pads affixed tightly to calipers? At stop with front brakes applied, if you rock thr bike back & forth, does it "clunk" BOTH ways?

I will do the rock test to see which side its coming from. But i think it is pad/caliper related. Going to inspect further when i have some free time.

Pm brian kz10006,he should have some bolts.Use blue loc tite on all your caliper bolts when you reinstall them. :)

Mine does that very occassionally under heavy braking while at the same time hitting a bad lump or pot hole and on our roads you play dodge the shit bit of road all the time cause they are all fucked in the country - dangerous.
Have new steering bearings - adjusted correctly, new fork oil, new pads, all caliper bolts correct torque ,anti rattles good, discs in as new condition. Mine is due to caliper wear after 170,000 km (a lot of twisties) - very tiny amount of play. Passes the rocking test - no noise whatsoever.

Make sure you have enough clearance between the caliper mounting bolts and the disc! - some bolts require an additional washer for this.
