Mag wheel bearing removal was created by bluej58
I bought a set of mags last Winter and have decided to mount my new Avon Roadriders on them ,that gives me another 12000 miles to re-lace my spoke rims B)

I have to replace the wheel bearings and have never done mags before and don't know much about them other then they came off a 78 1000
The rims say ENKEI J 19xMT 2.15 and J 18xMT 2.15 R-1026

Any info on the years available or model would be appreciated

Thanks, JD

There should be a circlip holding in the bearing. That must be removed first. Then you can use a drift pin reaching through from the other side to tap out the bearings. Keep moving the drift pin to different areas of the bearing to tap it out evenly. It should not require excessive force - just a whole bunch of small taps. You an see the circlip in the picture of my front wheel below. Ed

The bearings n stuff on my stock spoked wheels were the same as the 550 Ltd cast alloy wheels I put on my bike.

You may already know this. If your bike has a collar/spacer w a centering flange on it, then it's easier to remove the bearing on the opposite side first. The flange keeps the collar centered, making it difficult to catch the edge of the flange side bearing w a drift (or screwdriver --- I use a big 'un).

Also, when installing the bearings, the collar may only go in one way, so it might matter which side's bearing you install first.

Thanks guys, it's good to see that they work the same as a spoke set up.
Now I just have to get them out intact and measure for size. ;)

Pete, I found that somewhere online, where I can't remember.
Below are a couple enlarged copies, 125% and 150%, if they copy.

Hope they help,
Jim

Jack, the following should be the generic reference numbers for the bearings,
Model-year,
KZ 1000 A1-2 77-78 Front wheel, 6203-2RS Rear wheel, 6304-2RS sprocket hub, 6206-2RS
all bearings listed are industry standard bearings and the numbers should be
recognized by any bearing/hardware shop.
• • unless otherwise stated each wheel takes two bearings and the sprocket hub takes
one.

Hope it helps,
Jim

I tried to use a drift to knock out the bearings on my 750/4 wheels but couldn't catch the lip of the bearings. Even bought another set of drifts to tackle the project. Borrowed a bearing puller set from a friend, Pit Posse brand, and the bearings came out easily.

Thanks Jim, great info ;)
I'm going to try a drift first, that's what I did with my spoke wheels before.
The old girl is going to look a lot different next year.
