Front and Rear wheel swaping question was created by skooterbum4real
I purchased an 82 kz650 today for cheap. I'm going to use it's electronic ignition, and transfer it to my 78 kz650.

This 82 kz650 has the aluminum wheels on it. I'm wanting to swap out the complete wheel and tire assemblies from the 82 to the 78. The wheels on the 78 are rusted up, as well as the spokes. The 82 wheels would look a lot better.

Will the 82 kz650 wheels be a direct bolt up to the 78 kz650 ??

The CSR rear tire might be too fat for the B swing arm, but if it is, maybe you could go with a different sized tire. ??? Otherwise, I bet it will work but you'll probably have to do some finagling.

They have the same Rr axle & share a few parts. You may have to swap collars/spacers & maybe add a washer here or there to line up stuff. If the CSR 16" Rr won't fit, you could probably use the 18" from a 550A Rr. Or 650C or F.

This isn't quite the same thing, but I put KZ550-Ltd wheels on my 81 650-CSR. The 550 wheels are the same as the 83 CSR. It was a direct swap: all I needed were the wheels & Fr disk.

Yea I can deal with having to work with the spacers and such. I didn't think about tire size...Thanks for the heads up on that !!

Thinking out loud.......The 78 kz650 has an 18" Rt IIRC. The 82 kz650 has a 16" Rt IIRC. Even if the tires are a little bigger on the 82's, wouldn't there be a difference in overall height of the tires ?? As in, the 78's 18" would say measure approximately 24" in overall height, and the 82's 16" would say measure approximately 22" in overall height. Then this would place the 16" tire approximately 1" back into the swing-arm, at a wider point in the swing-arm ?? I guess 1" back isn't all that much, but maybe just enough ??

I wonder, if there is an issue with the swing-arm width, if the swing-arm could be swapped out ?? The 82 kz650 has nearly new tires on it, which is part of the reason I purchased it, as the 78 kz650's tires are, I believe, the factory originals. No way I'm running those...LOL

Thanks martin_csr !!

I don't know if the swing arms will swap, but they do have the same swing arm shafts & sleeves,
so probably yes. ??? It should be easy to measure, anyway.

Or since you already purchased the bike, go ahead & give it a shot. :)

Yea I'll be finding all this out no matter what. But, after my last fiasco, with not knowing about the rear wheel stops on the swing arm, that allow for the removal of the wheel assembly without having to mess with the exhaust. I figure I can only learn by asking / talking about this stuff before I tear into it....LOL
