Replacing front Master cylinder was created by Witchwerx
I used the search function but came up empty handed. Sorry if this has been discussed before. Links to topics, if so, would be appreciated. I need to completely replace the front master cylinder on my 82 KZ 750 ltd.. I have looked on ebay, Amazon, as well as Dime City Cycles and a few others, but I unsure of the quality. I not wanting to put a lot of into this. Are the cheap Chinese master cylinders worth it? Any advice would be appreciated. I know I could go with a used factory one, but the quality is always suspect. I would rather go brand new since the entire brake system has been replaced with new parts. Everyone here always gives good advice so I am reaching out to the community. Thank you all in advance. If anyone's following, I still haven't been able to get the fork caps off either. :/

I would not bet my life on a cheap Chinese master cylinder.

When removing the fork caps be sure to loosen the upper triple tree fork clamps first. Ed

Yeah, had another thread on the caps. Taking it to a buddy of mine to see what he can do. All the tricks and nothing clicked....so to speak. That's my worry with the cheap MCs... They're cheap. I don't mind plunking down on a decent one but I cannot seem to find any...

I've used 2 of the "Chinese" Front master Cylinders and have 0 problems with either of them. One's been on my 79'CBX for at least 5 years and other on my 72' H2 3 years. Maybe I got some good ones?

I keep reading about people installing these $30-$50 chinese master cylinders, and aside from the odd person reporting that they received a different sized master cylinder than the ordered, or that the cylinder was marked differently from what it actually was (i.e. 12mm marked as 5/8) they seem to be quite reliable (or else the people who have had them fail didn't get the chance to complain about it)

I thought I was going to have to replace the master cylinder on my 82 KZ750H but I managed to flush all the chunks out of it and the seals were still in good shape with no leakage so I got lucky. My plan was to order one of the cheap ones from EBay if it needed replacement.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI had one of those mc's from USA-Motorcycles and it worked fine but after a couple of years the exterior finish was shot.

Recently I ordered one of these master cylinders (single disc):

It was from a different vendor, same product though. This is the best master cylinder I've ever used for a classic bike! Connect this one, bleed the brakes and the lever is solid - way better than rebuilding an old master cylinder plus it looks very similar to the original.

When I received the box, I noted it had a David Silver Spares label on it. So I went to the David Silver website and ordered another one. Direct from David Silver Spares, the cost was about $70 including shipping. I found it by searching for CB400F parts.

Now if you're looking for a dual disc caliper, here's one on the Z1Parts website: www.z1parts.net/product/kawasaki-z1-900-...r-assembly-43015-032

David Silver might also have them. Maybe you can look for a Gold Wing master cylinder or some other vintage Honda that had dual discs.

I found a decent used one online and purchased it. If that doesn't work out, I'll grab a cheap one and run it through some paces hard (rear brake is excellent) So I can be sure. Thank again for all the help riders!
