1977 Kz650 Bobber Project

That 550 bobber looks fine but I have to mention 550s only had a single backbone frame not the triple like the big block kzs do

I like the way it sits but it does make my kidneys want to leap up through my throat and throttle my brain. I was very happy when I built my Bob I decided to make it soft-tailed. Hardtails make your body angry. It's not just Kryptonite that can put a big hurt on you Clark! A big hummeroid or bulging disk will drastically cut down on your riding pleasure. She will look pretty and all the boyz will ooooh and arrrrr but the first pot hole her make up will crack and fall off revealing the bitch she really is. Your experience may differ..... may differ. It's your bike to do with as you please, but keep in mind that not only is a hard tail uncomfortable it also makes the bike handle like crap. So, if you don't plan to actually ride it making it a hard tail isn't going to matter much one way or the other. However, if you do plan to ride it don't be surprised when that Vespa scooter blows you away in the turns. :laugh: :laugh: Ed

Hey guys,
I know its been a week or so since I've been on. Been putting in a lot of time at work and not as much time as I'd like to into the bike. Anyways, I've got the tank all cut up to the dimensions I need for the base. Its going to be a coffin style (attached is one I found on google and also what mine currently looks like). I like the looks of them and it is the easiest to build. Still haven't got the frame chopped yet as my welder has been busy. Plans now are for this weekend (Labor Day Weekend) to get it chopped and welded along with the tank fabbed and welded back up.

Question for you: What gearing should I be shooting for? Its due for chain and sprockets. I want something that has good takeoff, but also the ability to cruise without super high RPM's. Also what pitch? From what I'm reading, some say achieve this with a 17-40 gearing??
