Speedo cable removal

Can anyone enlighten me as to how to remove the cable from my old speedo? I took it all apart but it appears to be all sealed up, tamper proof I guess. When I pull on the square 'cable' it feels like it has a solid end on it of some kind and really does not want to come out. What am I missing?

Should but doesn't. I'll have to try to get it apart again

It's rusted in there from years of use. May have to remove the speedo/cable as an assembly, then turn it upside down and add penatrating oil and let it soak for a while.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
