ohlins fork
09 Jul 2014 21:20
I have come across a set of ohlins forks off a 2004 999 ducati. Doesn't 'appear' to be crash damaged.
I ASSUME they're 43mm's? Haven't been to see them yet.
Anyway.
Potential pitfalls...
Too short?
Pin/bearings are very large diameter- i assume i can turn up a replacement to suit and use Z bearings.
Possible clearance issues around headstock or body work.
Spring rates- 999 weighs < 200 kg, the Z1R, ahem, slightly more. At least they'd be fully tunable.
Going on my '77 Z1R.
I'll run a vernier over them and report back. I haven't done my due diligence searching yet but thought someone might of tried this one before?

no help on those particular forks.but typically most are shorter and yes you may have tank interference issues that may have you modify the stops.
hth,
can't wait for you to report back.

They turned out to be Showas, missing bottom clamp and most def' crash damaged so i left it at that. I'll keep looking.

The Showa Big Piston forks are supposed to work really well, if you can find any. 2004-05 ZX12R has gold upside down forks with radial brakes, and compression, rebound, and preload adjustable. And they are fairly long, I think they are around 29".
