Can someone tell me what attaches to the hole on that bracket? I dont remember and ive not got my manuel with me, looks like it could be important

From the Stand diagram for the 81 440-B2 there's some additional hardware for the side stand attached to that bracket. The diagram shows a pin projecting from the Fr sprocket, so I guess the extra stuff is to retract the side stand if you forget to put it up? If so, the device probably isn't necessary & won't work without the pin anyway, of course.

Right! It has well over 20 parts plus it interfaces with the transmission!
The side stand on my KZ650-C1 has 4 parts. 1 bolt; 1 nut; 1 stand; 1 spring. Mine is so simple even I can understand how it works! :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: Ed

1980 LTD 1000..,1976 LTD 900, have the 1000&900 now. the rest are previous= 1978 KZ 650 B.., 1980 Yamaha XT 500..,1978 Yamaha DT 400.., 1977 Yamaha yz 80..,Honda trail ct 70.., Honda QA 50...5-1/2 hp brigs & straton CAT chopper mini bike...3-1/2 hp mini bike (WHEN GAS WAS ABOUT 45 CENTS A GALLON)!!!!
