1977 KZ650 Stock Seat Swap
20 Jun 2014 11:40
Hey all!
This is my first post as a proud KZ650 owner! Here she is: i.imgur.com/Hn8KQEk.jpg
Anyways, I think I'd like to change out the king/queen seat for a flat style seat.
This is because I'm planning on putting some lower bars (either drag style or clubmans), and figured it'd be more comfortable with a flat style seat. Any opinions on this?
If I were to find a stock flat seat from another KZ, would it be a simple bolt-on swap? Or more involved?
THANKS!

I don't think that is a stock seat for a '77 650. Should be easy enough to find a stock replacement, even if you have to get it recovered.
Don't be ridiculous! It's only a flesh wound!

The stock seat is a flat standard style.
You could either recover that one most likely or you can probably find a replacement on eebbaayy.
Be sure to check the KZR classifieds & also the ads over at the KZ650.Info site.

20 Jun 2014 13:06 - 20 Jun 2014 13:16Ah, okay that makes sense. It's a super comfy seat in great shape-- just not the style I'm looking for.
EDIT: Ah, looks like a previous owner added this seat

Or you can take the cover off & use an electric carving knife and shape the foam to your desire & get some material from a local marine or auto body upholstery repair shop & cover it yourself

B&H Specialties is one place to get a seat cover. The few I've seen looked pretty good.
Here's a seat recover page w photos: SargentCycle.com --- Case Study --- CB750 Seat
Youtube videos are helpful as well.
I recovered my seat w a stock-type Travelcade cover --- it was a perfect fit. The stock foam was in good condition & I didn't have to do any carving or anything like that. The job seemed kinda hard to me, but doable, since I got it done. hee. After removing the old cover, I sanded the foam here n there to remove the old dried up glue & used 3M Super77 to reattach the foam in a couple of spots. I used the Super77 to glue on the new cover. The seat cvr directions said to use adhesive on the top of the foam only - not the sides. The hard part was pulling & fitting the seat over the prongs. I would pull the seat against a prong to make a mark, then poke a hole using an awl, then poke/fit the prong thru the hole.
1981 KZ650-CSR. The seat is different from the B/C models.
