Inner Fork Tube

What's the difference between Part Number 44013-1002 and Part Number 44013-037 .... I need to replace my tubes due to rust but I'm having a issue finding affordable replacements.. Can I use these tubes interchangeably??

I would not try to interchange them. What motorcycle model do you have? Part #44013-1002 is the tube for the 1979-1981 Police KZ1000; part #44013-037 is for the 1973-1977 Z1, KZ900, and KZ1000-A1. (see images below). The internal parts are different so I would expect the internal portion of the tube to be different too, plus the length will almost certainly be different. I definitely recommend getting the correct tube for the model you own because your life depends on the forks working correctly. Post the model and maybe someone can help find one. Ed

I seem to remember the C models having a larger diameter fork tube...in additional to all that Ed mentioned. If you are looking for the tube for the Z1/KZ900/KZ1000 models, then I think it is available as an aftermarket.

If I remember correctly, in order to re-chrome something you need to first de-chrome it (then get rid of the rust)......and that changes the metal by making it more brittle, also too much going on and you will get some dimensional differences. As Ed mentioned I think that getting a new or good used set of forks is your best and safest bet. Post some pictures or at least what type of bike you have

Fork tubes are "hard chrome", like hydraulic cylinder shafts. It is a completely different process from cosmetic/protection chrome plate. You may be able to find a good hydraulic repair shop that could make you new tubes, but it's not going to be cheap. They can't be replated.

You might try calling the guys at Race Tech suspension (racetech.com). They've expanded into the vintage street market and they are very knowledgeable on any motorcycle suspension issue . If they don't have it, they may be able to point you in the right direction.
