I found a really good deal on an 82 kz440 twin parts bike. It has the mag wheels we like more than the spoke wheels. The bike is a 400 twin. It has a belt drive setup. My wife's bike is a 82 kz650h2 chain drive. Would I be able to swap the wheels directly over? Would the piece that the sprocket/pulley mounts to with the rubber cushion under just come out and swap them and that's it? I've included a pic of the parts bike too.

Also, would it be possible to swap the belt drive stuff over too, and convert the kz650 to belt drive? , from a little research I've done it seems like I'd have to swap swingarms, which wouldn't be that big a deal.

After some research,
here are the part numbers for the bikes
82 kz650 CSR:
Rear wheel bearings: 601B6303ZZ
Rear Axle: 41068-1086
Rear Axle spacer: 92027-1226
Front wheel bearings: 601B6302Z
Front Axle: 41068-1009
Front Axle Spacer: 92027-1225

82 KZ440D Belt
Rear wheel bearings: 601B6303Z
Rear Axle: 41068-1060
Rear Axle Spacer: 92027-1198
Front Wheel bearings: 601B6302Z
Front Axle: 41068-1099
Front Axle Spacer: 92027-1085

Hopefully this helps someone out in finding out if the wheel wills wap or not and if so, what bearing or parts i would need to accomplish it.

I could be wrong, but don't think the swap will work without some serious (expensive) modifications. The KZ650 hub is oriented for 6 hub segments and 6 sprocket bolts. The KZ440 is oriented for 4 hub segments and 4 pulley bolts. See diagrams below. Ed

Are NEW belts readily available? If so --- Are they affordable?

The 440 rear wheel is different from the 650-CSR.

I've never heard of a 650 being converted to belt. My gut says no.
The output shaft on the transmission is probably different on the 650.
But ya never know sometimes. hee.

The front sprockets do not interchange. Neither does the rear.
The chain offset is also closer to the bikes centerline on the 400/440.

Ok thanks a million guys!!! Now, any ideas on what years and models of the kz bikes have the mag wheels that ARE interchangeable without much hassle? She has a slight hop to the front wheel cuz it's out of round, and we both like the look of the mag wheels better, and have been wanting to swap them since we got the bike.

Are you sure it's the wheel & not the tire?

The 1983 KZ650-CSR has cast alloy wheels & they are a direct fit.
KZ550-Ltd wheels are a direct swap too - all you need are the wheels - everything else is the same.
The 550A Fr wheel is the same as the 550C (Ltd). There are a few other models that have the same Fr as well.

1981 KZ650-CSR w KZ550-Ltd wheels.

Is there any specific year range for the 550s? Or does pretty much any 550 alloy wheel work?

80-83 550C 550A. The 550 GPz wheels might be different.
The 550 Shaft Fr wheel will probably work but not the Rr (not 100% sure, though).

The wheels on my bike above are from a 1980 550-Ltd --- direct swap & easy.
