Rear shocks on my kz650 was created by skooterbum4real
I used to be able to take the rear shocks apart on my older bikes, many years ago....

Is there any way to take the rear shocks apart on the 78 kz650's ?? The springs are pretty rusted on mine, and I'm hoping I can get them re-chromed, rather than have to replace the whole shock..

It can be done, but frankly it is not worth the effort. The stock shocks on the KZ650 was their weakest point. (Keep in mind folks call me a purist  ) I bought my KZ650-C1 new and by 10,000 miles the shocks were shot; they weren't quite 2 years old at that point. I did see where one guy went through the trouble to pull the springs off a pair of stock shocks, and when he did he found that he had been riding on nothing but the springs because the hydraulic function was shot. There are several companies that make decent shocks for the KZ650. Some look very similar to stock, some don't, but they are all better than 35+ year old stock units. Ed
