Am i in for problems? was created by jsnabbs
When installing the swing arm back onto the frame after the frame being powdercoated the diameter of the bolt hole was smaller(due to the coating) i really had to BEAT the bolt through, could i be in for problems due to the bearings in the swing arm perhaps being damaged? should i remove it and buff excess coating off the inside on the hole?
also had the same with the top shock absorber stubs, i buffed the coating off and bingo, no problem going on.

Leason learnt now, any others i come across i will remove excess powdercoating
Im just worried about the bearings, but it seems to move freely enough, but should i bother removing again?

Im thinking i should be ok as the bolt goes through the sleeve, and the sleeve to the bearings. so the interferance was between bolt and inside of guide hole.

what say you?

why didnt you or whoever was doing the powdercoating just mask the area that didnt need any coating off? it seems like an error on the behalf of the painter. but yes removing the excess powdercoat is the proper way to go about this because if you just force the items in you run the risk of damaging something.

i would ream all the holes that require cleaning and use a tap on the threaded components.

You need to watch these guys that do work on your bike and parts.

I really spent time getting to know my powder coater before he did my parts.

Even with conversations and explaining to him what to and not to do, there were minor mistakes.

I made him fix it.

By beating the bolt throught he powder coating you probably flaked some of the coating off and shoved it into the swingarm bearings. I would remove the bolt then clean the bearings and the coating off the inside of the bolt holes.

If the bearings were in place and not protected when the part was powder coated and cooked, and then you beat the pivot bolt though them with a hammer because the fit was too tight, I think the answer is pretty clear. They need to be replaced. Ed

You will want to clean the hole in the frame for the ground wire.
