Mag wheels for a 78 kz650b was created by skooterbum4real
The spoke wheels on my newly acquired 78 kz650 are rusted pretty bad. I'm thinking about replacing them with mag wheels.

Are there any particular year of bikes, with mag wheels, that would be a direct swap to my 78 kz650b ??

Turning the 18" rear into a 16" would be a big plus too

Thanks.......

Not necessarily a direct swap, but the 1980 KZ650-E1 (LTD) has mag wheels, the rear wheel is 16", and the rear is a drum brake. Other KZ650 16" rear mags use a disk brake.

The 1980 KZ650-F1 also has a rear drum brake, but it is 18".

Using a rear wheel that has a drum brake will make the swap a lot easier because you won't need to mount a master cylinder, brake hose, etc. on your bike.

I believe both the KZ650-E1 and KZ650-F1 use a single disk front brake.

I may be wrong, but I believe any swap to a mag type wheel will require some changes as far as what spacers etc. you use to get the wheel positioned correctly. Ed

Thanks 650ed !!

Yea I want to keep a drum rear brake. I will see if I can come up with a mag from the bike you mentioned. I've always preferred the 16" wheel over the 18".

I've got a front end from a 81 or 82 KZ750 with a mag wheel. I wonder if I can use some, or all of that ?? Regretfully the top tubes on the kz650 are pitted where the seals travel. So I have to deal with that in some form.
