Center Stand Interchangeability??? was created by kzdcw
I purchased a 77' KZ1000. It has no center stand. I've looked on ebay and saw a few of around this year but priced real high! I saw a couple of center stands from 81' and 82' and are considerably cheaper. Will these work?

What model 1977 KZ1000 do you have? It matters. Ed

Ed is correct...the 1977 KZ1000B1 (LTD) did not come with a centerstand. You may have to fabricate some sort of stop for the centerstand to rest against when not in use. You may be looking for a centerstand from a 1977-1978 KZ1000A1/A2 model.

That's a good question. Bike was manufactured in 3/77. It is the Standard Model ( definitely not an LTD model ) with the dual upswept mufflers. I just saw the bike yesterday. So with that in mind, will the 81-82' center stands work? Hope that helps?

That helps. According to Kawasaki.com the 1977 KZ1000-A1 uses the same stand as a bunch of other bikes. In the parts diagram below I show the list in the inset. You may want to double check the VIN on the bike to make sure it is not an KZ1000 - B (LTD) as there is no center stand shown for those models. Or you can just take a peak under the frame to make sure the center stand mounting tabs are there. Ed

Ed, If my memory serves me, I did see mounting tabs under the frame for a center stand. There are 3 center stands on ebay right now. 1 is for a 81' KZ1000 CSR? 1 is listed for 81' KZ1000 LTD ? The other one is listed for a 82' KZ1000 Police? Very confusing  What do you think ???

The 1981 KZ1000 LTD is the K1 model, the 1982 Police is the P1 model, and the 1981 CSR is the M1 model. None of those models is listed as sharing the same part number as the KZ1000-A1,so I would think there are differences that could cause problems. Ed

Ed, I wish I new what the width of the center stand is at the mounting point to the frame? The only difference I can see in the pictures is the earlier KZ center stands are plated or re-enforced between the stand legs at he upper end where it mounts to the frame. Anyone else on the forum dealt with something like this before?
