No, that doesn't look right to me. Did you remove the old race first? Ed

What do you mean by "remove the old race first"? :silly: Just kidding...

Cut it with a dremel then smacked it with a hammer. There is no lip to grab on to.

What about the upper seal? My top cap is rounded, like an umbrella. Nowhere for a seal to go.

In that first picture, do you have 2 bearings stacked on top of each other? Ed

No, of course not. It's the bearing that came in the kit. Look at the ID of the inner race. The race itself has that extension piece on it. I presume the bearing should not extend above the top of the head tube. Is that correct?

You are correct. I installed the same All Balls part number (AB22-1014) in mine with no problems. The image below shows what mine looked like. I wonder if they send you the wrong item? You may want to contact them and send them a picture because something doesn't look right. Ed

Apparently, I'm an idiot. Seems the upper and lower races are switched; that roller assembly that's sticking up should be on the steering stem. One of the All Ball's tech guys got me sorted and is sending me a new bearing for free. First rate tech support. Live and learn.

Oooops. Don't feel too bad; you're certainly not the first one to make that mistake. Ed

New roller parts are on the way. :D

Noticed in the parts fishe that Kawasaki's upper roller bearing assembly (for later bikes with tapered rollers instead of loose ball head bearings) has a rubber seal built in. The top umbrella cap that goes over the bearing is also different compared to the loose ball head bearing cap. The All Ball's kit comes with an upper bearing shield/seal, but it won't work with the loose ball umbrella cap so I ordered the OEM parts to make sure the upper bearing is sealed properly.

While its all apart you can drill & tap the steering head for a grease fitting and youll never have to change them again
