82 kz 750 info
20 Feb 2014 16:44
Can anyone give me some info on this VIN? JKAKZDL12DA
Does the Z mean GPZ? 0_o I wouldn't be that lucky...
I'm having issues figuring out exaclty what it is. I've found sparse info about it and need to know how rare it is before I do any mods to the bike. It is bone stock and complete and don't want to change it if this model is rare.
From what I've read these were a factory hodgepodge of parts. The bike is a KZ but has a GPZ tank and oil cooler. It has mounts where I think a fairing once was but I'm not sure. It has air adjustable forks which I don't remember on my 650.

[strike]Your bike also has the GpZ fenders and headlight. I suspect it is a GpZ.[/strike]
I think JR hit the nail on the head. I now believe the bike is not a 1982 as stated. Double check and you may find it is actually a 1983 (perhaps built in late 1982). Here's my logic - the 1982 L2 had a round headlight and used the KZ750E-034258- up frame number (VIN). The 1983 L3 had a rectangular headlight, like shown in JR's pics, and had frame numbers JKAKZDL1()DA014501- up. Take a look at the link below; that's where I got this info. Ed

Nice bike.
Looks like an L3 or L4 which would be 83 or 84.
I think the L models were GpZs in different clothes. Someone who has access to zedder software will be able to check the VIN

That is an exact clone of my bike except the paint job. Thanks guys. I read somewhere there were less than 700 of these imported to the states. Is this true?

That's not too unusual. They start making the models late in the previous year, so an August 1982 bike is actually a very early 1983 bike. It's similar to what car makers do. The first bunch of model year 2014 cars are already built and for sale at around September 2013. Ed

Nice bike. Has a bunch of upgraded parts compared to the early 750's. Not rare per say, and not overly valuable. How many miles on it? I might be interested in the exhaust if you are thinking about modding.

No. I believe you have an early 1983 KZ750-L3. The 1983 750 GpZ was a ZX750-A1 and would have a different set of letters in the VIN. Plus is was a mono-shock bike and had different bodywork (see link below). Ed
