Hey guys, while my carbs are being rebuilt by George. shout out to www.wgcarbs.com , I am looking to get a seat to re cover. Problem is, there are so many variances with the bike that I just don't know what will and won't fit. I have the part number from partzilla as 53001-1135, and I know the other bikes that that particular seat fits, but I don't know if any other seats will fit that bike. Does the B fit? I read about there being a difference in frames on certain bikes such as the rear being a hoop rather than a box, but again, I just don't know. What seats will bolt on to my frame. Not looking to do anything custom nor universal. Just need the pan to bolt up to the stock frame. Any info would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Here is what partzilla says the seat for my bike fits.

You're probably going to have to use a seat from an SR or Ltd, as indicated by the cross-reference.
The B & C seats may bolt to the frame (maybe not?), but they are shaped at the rear to fit around a ducktail which the SR & LTD do not have.

From Kawasaki.com for the 79 D2:
53001-1135 -->> alternate part number (but it may not be very useful) 53001-1007
Model (4):
KZ650-D1 (SR) (1978)
KZ650-D1A (SR) (1978)
KZ650-D2 (SR) (1979)
KZ650-E1 (LTD) (1980)

FYI, the 81-83 650-CSR models are different.

Post a pic of the framework below the seat and we can tell you.
The SRs have a tube that loops around from one side to the other.
The B and Cs have tubes that run straight back.

First off, thanks Martin for pointing me in the right direction with the correct OEM seat.

Now, I think there may be a problem. It appears as though my frame has been "modified". Looks like the tabs are missing for the seat hinges. The other problem is that I don't weld. Or maybe I'm wrong here. Does this look stock? The pics on partzilla of the frame don't look near the same.

You're correct; some nitwit with a hacksaw and welder has modified your frame. The diagram below shows the stock configuration. Ed

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI don't know that much about the 70s 650s, but it appears the frame has had some stuff cut off of it. I could be wrong, but in addition to the missing seat hinge pin mounts, it looks like some engine mounts & other stuff may have been lopped off as well.

Here's a frame for comparison - from the number on the steering head I believe it's a 78 SR. You probably ought to check your frame & engine numbers to make sure what bike you have. jarlef z650
