Funny Drilled Front Disk
14 Dec 2013 19:09
I am rebuilding a 1980 KZ550 and am down to the frame and engine. I have been listing and ordering parts and when I was cleaning up the wheels to figure out what to order I just noticed that the front disk drilled holes are not in a consistent pattern some are lopsided (see picture). I would like advice on whether that will cause any problems or whether I should replace it.
Thanks
Tomas

That's normal. The irregular drilling pattern helps reduce squeal.
It's the same reason why larger car tires get an irregular spaced pattern. It reduces the resonance that can happen at specific speeds.
