6 piston brake bracket

I just picked up some ZX 750 brakes and was wondering if anyone else fitted them on their bike. I plan on using the original disks and forks on the bike. Anyone do something like this before? Pics would be appreciated

I'm looking for some knowledge on fitting custom calipers because I have never done a custom mechanical job before.

Don't know if you can get them to fit with your wheels, maybe if you change either the rotor diameter or offset. Problem with hitting the wheel has been my experience. I have some 4 spots I wanted to put on my KZ, same ones fitted to my Concours easily. But on the KZ it hits the wheel. The stock calipers with there single piston leave lots of room at the wheel.

That would make sense as to why no one uses the stock disk than...I really want to re-use my rotors since they are at the machine shop already. Every brake upgrade has new rotors that I have seen.

Well the other part of that, is that the stock rotor does not float, the caliper does. The 4 and 6 piston calipers mount solid and the rotors float. So if you use a 4 or 6 piston caliper and the OEM rotors, you will feel even the slightest bit of run-out/ warpage. Could be bad when you have .004" plus of distortion.

I didn't know that, I thought the only thing floating was for was to adjust for brake wear. So I need a larger floating brake disk and then an adapter plate to hook up to the kz wheel and forks.

Yes, it can be done. I have a pair of R1 monoblock calipers that I am using with the stock front wheel and discs on my 1980 B4 project.



If you are lucky your calipers will clear the spokes when centered on the discs. If not, you will have to move the discs away from the spokes with a spacer. You are limited in this by the fork leg location and the size of the half of the caliper that lives between the spokes and the disc. Some modern calipers are smaller then others.

Then you will need to make a mount that holds the caliper in position, centered on the disc.



You will also need to use the correct mastercylinder. The R1 calipers I use need a 14mm Nissin inline master or a 19mm Nissin radial master.

I have used solid mount discs with solid mount multi piston calipers for years with no problems.

How bout doing a brake conversion build for us to see in depth how you put your big brakes on a stock front end. Im sure the masses here would eat it up

Yes, that is a good idea. I am doing a few Yamaha projects at this time, so it may be a while before I start my mext nrake upgrade.

Also, did you do a fork swap to the bike, keeping the wheel or are they KZ forks? The angle you took the picture looks like the caliper bolted right in.
