BlackZ1R: Go to the All Balls Racing website and checkout the "Fork Conversions" tab for specific bearing numbers for your application. Use the"KZ2" link in my signature for some pictures of my application.

moonbeam: I only needed the tree homemade shims to ensure I had enough threads on the '99 ZRX1100 steering stem to properly tighten its 25mm nut, thus providing enough torque on both bearings to control the front forks free play. Note that I also cut off the two mounting "tabs" from a '76 KZ900's top triple tree that were used to mount that model's OEM instrument bracket and instruments along with ignition switch and idiot lights. Then I had both "tabs" welded onto the top triple tree of the '99 ZRX1100 to make for the easy mounting of the stock '78 KZ1000 instruments, ignition key, and idiot lights.

Thanks Bob,
Got it but the OD of the zx9r[1995] stem is 35mm both top and bottom and the ID of the AllBalls bearing is 25mm top / 28mm bottom.I guess I will have to machine out the stems and use kz1000 bearings

the thing that makes a stem swap cool is that you can just order the factory bearings for your model of kz from z1enterprise and bolt em on.
going the all balls route you have to remember what parts you converted from.
which right now is no biggie.but in ten years when them bearings wear out how good will your memory be? :whistle:

What Leon says is very true. Better yet, have a custom stem made if possible. I'm going to try this with my ZZR forks. It'd be neat to have the KZ stem bearing area, and the ZZR bolting section. That way no tree mods required, and stock KZ bearings.
