First Task: Mag to Spoked Wheel Swap
01 Sep 2013 17:59
I recently purchased a 1979 KZ750B which I am going to turn into a Cafe Racer. My first order of business is to swap the current mag wheels for spoked wheels... I think the vintage look of spokes is fantastic. The stock tire width for the mag wheels is 19"x 3.25" front, 18"x 4" rear. Does this translate directly to the size required for spoked wheels? I don't want to order the wrong size/diameter wheels.
Also, any suggestions on websites to find the appropriate spoked wheels?

Your front rim should be 1.85 x 19 and the rear would be 2.15 x 18.
The size is located on the spokes. The 650,750 twin, 900, and 1000
came with those sizes of spoke wheels. Make sure you use the right
spacer to keep the axle centered.

I have a 79 kz750b with spoke wheels. I want mags. WARNING: surface rust on the spokes, but they ring true. If you can't find other wheels, I'd trade even.

I went from mags to spokes on my KZ1000. They are not the same but similar enough i can tell you this, make sure you get the correct spacers, and get the caliper and torque link that comes with the rear spoked wheel. The mag wheel caliper didn't clear the spokes in the rear.
