The second and third pics Leon just put up, the one of the blue one, got me interested. After that, nope. Just not doing it for me. It's me, I don't even like ssa's on the newer stuff, I see a VW trike of the early 70's. Cool for a while but not me!.. But, I do respect the work and engineering involved, for that I like them!
P.S. Leon, do you happen to know what that front fender is off of on that blue bike?

Truly think it out, supports are welded in place, truly aligned, fabbed to today's standards etc....

Keep in mind all, we're speaking of a 30 year old frame/suspension design and fabricated build so no way in hell is this concept going to compromise the "load" on a less than ideal design (today's standards) on a performance engine build...

Hell these old girls frame would bend and twist all over the place if driven hard thus the naming convention "Widow Makers" was born. Sure mostly defined by the 2 stroke KZ750 triples regarding frame twisting but any of the new for the time KZ's due to their power bands, torque and non prepared riding experiences threw ppl to the ground. PPL just weren't ready for the power/torque/ass pucker factor of these new Japanese engines....

Look at those images, these guys truly did it right, spent the $$$ when needed, didn't skimp the funds or monkey rig to do it right...

So if you're ready for the challenge, going to build & clean the engine up, dig into the pockets for the $$$ you're going to spend to accomplish it all correctly, go for it and post the project images for I for one would enjoy seeing the process.... Both good a& bad, hurdles & wins along the way images w/write ups...

Klasmo in Germany used to sell those fenders before they went out of business, I've seen a couple of them in person, really nice - unfortunately I don't know who made them or if they still do.

I wanted one badly, just couldn't justify spending $ 250 on a fender

I'd spend $250 in a heartbeat! when your finishing that 1 die hard project, you do what's necessary! It's exactly what's needed to finish a beautiful build!

Les, I agree completely, what I meant was I couldn't find the money at the time (no job = no fun) and when I got back on my feet Klasmo had folded, if I come across one today I won't think twice.

To return to the original topic there was one guy way back who did a single side conversion on a 650, I believe he used a VFR arm and wheel.

His username was Oxmix, but he hasn't logged in since 2006 and the archive doesn't seem to go back that far so I couldn't find any additional info about the build - this is the only pic I've got:
