Queston on tapered neck bearing conversions
21 Aug 2013 22:14 - 21 Aug 2013 22:19
Rebuilding my forks and thought it would be a good time to upgrade the steering stem bearings. I picked up an Allballs bearing kit (the kid in me snickers at the name) and it did not come with very detailed instructions.
The kit comes with two seals, each one a rubber ring bonded to a metal disk. The seal under the stock lower bearing was a two piece with a wavy metal disk and a thick rubber gasket. Is the new seal supposed to replace both peices?
I want to get it right as the lower bearing has to be pressed on over the seal.
New on the left, old on the right.

Yes it should replace both of those. There should be an upper and a lower bearing, and two seals in the kit. This should replace all the open ball bearings and seals that were factory.
