brakes! help... i have an idea. was created by sefbee
so, i had the idea to upgrade the front brake on the kz200 im building for my girlfriend...

i took a look at a brembo caliper i have, which is set aside for a yamaha xs500 project, and it looks like the offset of the rotor is almost exactly where it needs to be, if i can work out a simple bracket to attach the caliper to the fork.. ok. easy. can do..

the problem is that the caliper is a bit wider than the stock unit, and the back edge of it hits the spokes. if i can fit a larger diameter rotor, i think i can make it work, as the spokes narrow, and have more clearance, as you move the caliper further away from the axle.

it looks like my stock rotor is 10"

from what i have found online, a kz400 rotor appears to be 11"

can anyone tell me if the 4 bolt pattern for the kz400, where the rotor attaches to the hub is the same spacing as on the kz200? or maybe 650?

are there any other rotors which share this bolt pattern?

here's a few pics of the bike in question.

wheels are built from NOS 18x1.85 rims, stock hubs, and stainless spokes/nipples. tires are both 18x4.00 coker diamond classics, in case anyone was wondering.

thanks for the help in advance.

Not sure about the bolt pattern question. A lot of the hubs and wheels interchange without much effort. But when you get that all fitted you will have a very powerful front brake on the bike. At least if you stay with the small diameter master, it may have a progressive feel to it.

Pm Patton,he can probably find a list of bikes that list the same front hub or brake rotor.
That should get you started anyway. ;)

I wonder if it would be easier to adapt a caliper from 650/750/900/1000 on to there?
Theyre a dime a dozen, easy to find parts for. ;)

well.. it turns out that the rear caliper off a ducati monster fits very well, if i make a pretty simple aluminum bracket.
i'm using the master cyl and lever from a monster as well.
i'll post pics when finished.

thanks!
