Kawasaki kz750 LTD

I'm sure this has been covered a thousand times on here but i have a question about the speedometer drive system. Today I was riding and the speedometer cable fell out of the drive. But it wasn't just the cable. The piece of the drive that attaches the cable to the system pulled out with it. Does this require a whole new drive? Or can it be fixed?

Here's what the speedo drive consists of. Does it look like the part number "17" is the piece that came out of the unit? If so, take a look to see of the pin (#14) is still in there and make sure the other parts (#12, 13, 15) are still there. If everything is there except the pin you may be able to reassemble and install a new pin. If parts are missing it may be easiest to get another unit. Ed

It looks like its Part Number 17 that popped out. The other parts I am not sure how far up they are but when I look i see a groove for what looks like you would insert a pin so I would guess the others have fallen out then? Do you know what years the drives would work for this bike?

You're in luck. Assuming your bike is a KZ750-H model according to Kawasaki.com the following models (see list below image) use the same speedo drive unit; plus the part is still "Active" so any dealer can get one for you. Partzilla lists it at $60.49 or used ones are available on eBay.
