Just noticed another thing. This could be it.
Let it sit for a while and came back. Started pumping lever, noticed air bubbles coming out of bleeder tube. Bleeder was shut. What's up with that? That's just a metal bolt with holes in it. How can one of those be broke?

Hi "Motor Head"
Who makes these kits?
Are there different ones available?
Have a 1975 Z1-B 900, Front Single Caliper, but feel is "Soft", wondering if these braided lines would help mine?
Yea, mines been bled over and over, My hose is new, calipers rebuilt,MC rebuilt, new pads , new "Splitter" etc. etc. .
Thanks

Did some research. Going to switch the bleeder from the other side and clean the seat off the best I can. It could be the caliper seat is cracked or something.

Bleeder -- Part No.43085-001 -- is shown by kawasaki.com as an active part, meaning supposedly available at Kawasaki dealerships.
Same bleeder is used on 74 Kawasaki models.
To eliminate possible bleeder function issues, would replace both front caliper bleeders.
Good Fortune!

May download the Z1 FSM in KZr's FILEBASE, which covers brake theory and function in detail.
Much of the info also applies to the '78 Z1R.
For example, here's a copy of page 106:
KHI's official FSM for '77`'79 KZ1000 includes '78 Z1R.
Would obtain the manual.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationFor Big Spenders wanting to go First Class:
Meanwhile, I muddle along with this one:
Would keep an eye on ebay for a decent copy.
Caution -- Don't get confused with the Parts/Assembly manuals being offered on ebay.

I'd check with the seller, he does list some different models. Plus there are other sellers. Also z1enterprises has stainless lines. Not hard to find a set. But it does help quite a bit on firming up the lever/ feel.ed spangler wrote:Motor Head wrote: If those are the original hoses from way back when the bike was new, I'd replace them. I to had dramas bleeding my Z1r front brakes.
Ended up semi bleeding the M/C out of the bike...then used the syringe method as mentioned above.

Ok, I got it! I have front brakes. After three gruelling days and three sleepless nights. I rebuilt my calipers, got new brakelines, got a new piston for my calipers, and two big bottles of brake fluid, iI did it. I will attest to the 5/8" master cylinder piston that z1 enterprises sells does work for the z1r.
It all boiled down to the two holes in the top of my master. The little one was plugged. Ground down a finishing nail to clean it out, put it all back together and got it bleed out. Got the air out of master on the bench. Then just bled the old traditional way. With the occasional banjo bleed.
Took the old bike for her first ride since I've had it more than three years. I'm sure she hasn't ran in many many years before that.
She's all done except for some cosmetic issues.
Thanks
Aaron

Good to hear you got it. The return port was plugged after all. That little bugger ends up that way when the bikes are old, and the fluid turns to sludge.

Glad you got it sorted Aaron...brakes can be very frustrating indeed.
I'm glad I used dot5 fluid in mine...otherwise they'd be no paint left.
Your bike looks fantastic by the way...
