Changing the front master cylinder with no cable
02 Aug 2013 16:39
Hi,
I want to change the front master cylinder on my 1978 Z1R to a more modern one and get read of the mechanical cable that I'm always afraid will snap on a hard stop. , so to deal with the clearance I thinking of using a master cylinder with a with remote reservoir so I can install it behind the wind screen (please see photo)
Will any double disk master cylinder work well?
Or in need to find one with the correct inner piston diameter?
If you can help me this can be amazing.
Thank you,
Eli.

I really can't answer your question 100% caused I set my Z1R up with modern brakes but on the master I lost my mirror mounting, something else to look for in a master.

What master cylinder did you use?
It works well?

That bike isn't finished but I used the same setup on my other one and it works great but know that the master and calipers were matched sets from the same bike on both builds. I use ZX6 stuff and love it. I really don't see why it wouldn't work with the newer master and older calipers, dual disc, 14mm master cylinder bore I believe and single, 12mm or 1/2" depending on where you get the info. Stay close to which ever you have and you should be good.
