Using lock tite on a front sprocket was created by bluej58
This is the second time in recent history that I've bought a front sprocket with a lock washer and the holes on the sprocket don't line up with the tab on the lock washer :pinch:

Luckily the first time I was able to straighten out my old washer with notches for the spline and reuse it.

This time on the 650 the spline isn't out far enough to use one of those even if I had one.

The supplier says to use lock tite.

Is this a safe option ?

JD

I tried to drill a small hole but it looks like the sprocket is hardened

Yes, loctite will work fine, just stay with the blue.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

My sprocket had red Loctite and I had to use heat, impact and bolt the chain together to get it off. Blue should be good enough as Ron says.

The RED loctites need about 300-350 degrees to loosen up, so if you have temperature sensitive items(like wires, and other parts) nearby, use the Loctite 242.

Loctite #242 BLUE, Medium strength thread locker
For ¼” to ¾” bolts.

Or Permatex thread locking compound:

Permatex # 22210 Medium/high strength thread locker, BLUE, ¼” to ¾” fasteners, surface insensitive (can be used on oily fasteners).

Permatex # 24210 Medium strength thread locker, BLUE, ¼” to ¾” fasteners.

Thanks guys , Permatex # 24210 Medium strength thread locker, BLUE it is !

I have a tube of the 24240 but will be getting the 24210 because of the oil.
