dual front disc brakes was created by gravyl17
I need to replace the front brake pads on my 1978 kz 650. I got the bike from a guy who built it from several different models. Not sure what size pads to order. The bike has dual front disc brakes and is titled as a 1978 but not sure what to do. this is probably a newbie question but dont wanna buy pads that wont fit.

If you can, post a couple pics of the calipers. We might be able to identify them. Also, what is the VIN stamped in the steering neck? If it starts with "KZ650C" they may be the stock brakes. Ed

This bike was built by a guy BoZ650 from this forum I found out. There are his build pics but didnt find any info on the brakes although I may have overlooked that information.....?

Ok; it appears that the left caliper is the stock KZ650-B caliper that came on the bike. The right caliper looks like it is also a KZ650-B caliper (or possibly a Left Side KZ650-C caliper – see pic of mine) that has been turned upside down (notice the bleeder is facing down instead of up) and fitted to the right side of the forks. So – you should be ok if you buy 2 sets of pads that were made for the KZ650-B1 (the KZ650-C1 pads are the same). I would make sure you can return the pads if for some reason they are not correct.
