kz900/1000 front dbl diskfrom mag to spoke swap? was created by trianglelaguna
anyone ever tried putting later kz1000 77-79 from the mags onto a kz900 or kz1000 spoke single disk rim (four bolt mag to four bolt spoke)...any trouble with distances from hub to calipers slot...off set whatever...i have set of dual drilled disk that are slightly thinner than the single kz900 on there now...looks like they are them same in-to outside measure and will bolt to mu front spoke hub...anyone ever have a try and swapping mag disks to a spoke rim

I used a 4 bolt 650 hub(same as) with 650 forks etc.. and a KZ400 rim on a KZ400.
The disc I used were from a Honda, but redrilled to a 4.
And if I remember the only difference was the weight vs the stock KZ rotor.
The outward spacing I think your referring to is the same on a spoke rim vs. a mag.

Here is the only pic I have currently of the bike.
I won't be home till before the 4th if you need more.
Then I could throw on some calipers, take measurements etc..

If I remember right, anything from the 1976 KZ900 to the 1980 kz1000's (except 1000E shaftdrive and I think the cop bike) all share the same dimensions and spacing for wheel and disc offset. Even the 650/4, and 750/2 use the same spoke front hub.

I used 650/4 triple trees on my Superbike and the dimensions were all the same except for less trail. I remember the 650's using a smaller diameter front disc. Plus the kz750/twin rear hub is the same as the rear hub on the 1977/1978 KZ1000A models too!!!

gosh that would be cool thanks guys...i am not going to take the front end off till after MotoGP ...which is right around the corner...but then the forks down to race tech the swingarm down to a member here for some bracing ,,,, spiegler brake lines and dual disk and calipers...

all that said i got everything to do it but just in case...i want a running bike for GP week and bike night...

this pic shows the type of disks i bought and my worry about mag/spoke offset diffs...sounds like it will work

99.9% sure the discs will fit.
All Z1 and the US KZ900 with single disc had the thicker front disc, while the Z900 and Z/KZ1000's had the thickness decreased for the dual discs.

Hey tri

I am in the middle of the same swap right now, except I have the wire wheel. Everything mocks up just fine, only issue I'm having is I don't think my stock master is moving enough fluid. I can't get any decent lever feel from it, and I think I'm gonna have to swap to the ugly one that came with the calipers I scored. That one needs rebuilt though.(maybe so does mine. I will keep you posted. Plan b is a gsxr master, and homemade mirror bracket.

Mine:
04 Honda rebel 250(wifes)
04 GSXR 750(bolt on galore)
98 CBR 600F3(filter, pipe, adjustable cam sprokets, dyno tune)
76 KZ900A (LTD gauge pods, crash bars, LTD(style)pipes, dyna coils and ignition, headwork and mild port cleanup by cavanaugh racing, K&N filter pods, heck I dunno.

Those look like z1r wheels/brakes in that picture. ;)
