1982 KZ550 LTD Front brake Master cylinder

I recently put some new drag bars on my bike, it's my first bike and have just taken the time to make it what I want, paint, lowering the rear end. I suppose some people would call me an idiot for ruining the bike but I honestly want more of a cruiser style out of it than the sport cruiser look. Back to the point! The front brake master cylinder is huge bulky and angled weird because of the stock bars and I was wondering what a good replacement would be thats compact but fits the technical needs of the bikes braking system? Not sure if anyone else has posted about this, I'm fairly new to this site and would really appreciate if someone can point me in the right direction on how to get this issue figured out! I'll be posting a thread soon in the projects section to keep everyone updated on how my fist bike is coming along!

Thanks,
Ben.

usa-motorcycles-inc (sp?) lists various new aftermarket master cylinders. 12.5 mm would be the correct piston bore for the 550 w single Fr Br disk. You'll have to splice the brake light wires. They come with or without a mirror orifice.

Mostly everything I'm finding on ebay has the bore diameter at 12.7mm and fits 7/8 bars. Is it okay to be over 12.5mm by 0.2mm?

Usually, with other brake components unchanged, size of the master cylinder bore determines the sensitivity when squeezing the front brake lever.

A replacement master cylinder with exactly the same size bore as the stock master cylinder should produce the same braking performance.

A replacement master cylinder with a bore smaller in size than the stock master cylinder should produce more sensitive brake performance when squeezing the front brake lever, that is to say producing more powerful braking with the same squeeze.

A replacement master cylinder with a bore larger in size than the stock master cylinder should produce less sensitive brake performance when squeezing the front brake lever, that is to say producing less powerful braking with the same squeeze.

Kawasaki large fours with a single front disc were produced with a 14mm bore master cylinder.

When dual front discs were introduced, Kawasaki increased the master cylinder bore size to 5/8".
Kawasaki also provided the larger 5/8" bore master cylinder as part of the factory kit offered for adding a second front disc to single disc models with the stock 14 mm bore master cylinder.

Good Fortune! :)

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration

12.7mm should be close enough, IMHO.
You can probably go with one that's ~14mm which I think is an either or size (single or dual disk),
but I'd stay close to 12.5mm. ~16mm would be for a dual disk.

Thanks guy for all the comments and replies! Very much appreciated as this site has been a big help to such a new guy to the bike world. @Lightitup, does that come with all the electrical connections as well ready to just splice into the old connection?

There appears to be a switch on the underside of it, but I would ask to verify and ask about the piston bore diameter & mirror orifice.

I currently have this installed: ebay user k1motorcycle
It's a 14 mm bore but works fine, I did some hard braking today with no problems. 12.7 would be ideal for a single caliper but 14 is pretty close. Also the banjo bolt was really snug so I'm using the old bolt.

PROS: It fits the bar well, the mirror drops right in and the brake switch works well.
CONS: you have to build your brake switch adapter, it only comes polished aluminum, only comes level so won't work with original ape hanger bars.
