Flat tire was created by mopguy
Got a screw in my front tire, how? God only knows, pulled it out hoping it did not go through, and air started leaking out. Question is can this tire be repaired like a car tire or is it toast, it has very little mileage and is like new.

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

The tire can be patched if its a small hole but i think your bike should have a tubed front tire. I would check to make sure. you can usally tell by looking at the valve stem. If so the tube can be patched. If it was me id just by a new tube unless you know your tube is realitivly new.

If the tire is nearly new and the hole is very small it may be worth saving, but there will be an element of risk. If I was going to re-use the tire I would definitely replace the tube - I would not patch it - tubes are cheaper than flesh and blood. Then I would put an inner tube patch on the inside of the tire. I wouldn't plug it because I believe the plug will rub on the tube and weaken it.

If the tire has less than 75% tread left, I would just replace it and the tube at the same time. Ed

I am not sure if the tire has a tube, its a Pirelli tire that is on a mag wheel in a 1980 KZ750 LTD. The hole is not that big.

If its a 750 like mine then it's tubeless and while a tire plug would get you home I wouldn't trust one for long. At least in my car I have 3 other wheels if a tire plug plug fails.
Patch and plug might be ok but that one I'd leave with my local shop. Ask shop.
If it has an inner tube then I'd patch it and ride. This was what we did in the 70s

1980 LTD would still be a tube type tire, so no worry, just replace the tube and you are good to go. No need to ever worry about the tire if you have a flat on a tube type wheel, just replace the tube.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Took tire to bike shop and apparently it is a tubeless, so they fixed it with a plug and seems to be okay now.

Not being an expert on this...could you use a tube in a tubeless tire and use a patch on the tire like mentioned earlier and still use the tire...

You could plug the tire and install a tube.

That is really dicey on a front tire.
