used tires

I got my license on saturday and had to park my bike all weekend because of a bad back tire. noticed it when i let another guy taking the test use my bike. The belts were showing. I rode it all day, stayed off the interstate but i decided to park it when my bike started wobbling at any speed. So, me being a cheap person who likes to burn the back tire, i decided to get a used rear tire for cheap. Its an Avon. I figure a used back tire isnt as bad as a used front tire. What is your guys' opinion?

note- im broke as hell and cant afford nice new fancy tires :lol:

I was riding with a buddy last year that had just put a 84 Honda back on the road .

It had less 5000 miles on it, had the original tires and they looked great.

He tried taking a tight corner in front of me doing about 15 mph and the bike slid out .

He ended up breaking more parts then the new set of tires cost.

It ain't worth it.

Not worth it. Park it till you can get some legit tires. Oh and after you get new tires, remember they need a couple hundred easy miles until they scrub off whatever coating makes them slick when new.

I realize you don't want to be harsh, but be careful who you let ride your bike.

My buddy let another guy, whom he didn't know very well, ride one of his bikes. They both were riding to go check out a third bike, and at the very first stop light, my buddy was stopped at a red, and his second bike came sliding past him on its side into the intersection. My buddy turned around to see what the F happened, and the other guy was just standing there in the road about 30 feet back.

My buddy asked him WTF, and other guy said he didn't know what happened. Crazy. Turned out the other guy had only been riding for a few days.

You can get a cheap new tire like a Cheng Shin for maybe $50 that's good for about 5000 miles.

shinkos are pretty nice for the price. I put over 9,000 miles on a pair of those. thought they were great tires for the cost.

I'm running Shinkos as well, have about 1000 miles on them. Got both for around 110, mounted myself and using balancing beads. Not a high performance tire but suits my needs. Check ebay.

I believe i had shinkos on my bike too. Replaced both tires last year i think in the spring.. or maybe the fall? not sure but all i know is the back one didnt last too long with my dumbass revving it up and dumping the clutch to bark the rear tire from a stop sign i rode it yesterday with the used tire on there. Im no master at cornering right now so i take it easy on corners anyways. Ill probably invest in some new tires this next paycheck. The front one still looks new so ill just get a rear one. Thanks guys.

post a pic of the tire...i have run many a used tire when i was young...when you get old and fat like me...you can afford to buy tires...when your young and starting out...a used tire in good shape....better than the one with cord imo

congrats on the license.....never get a d.u.i EVER ,or too many tickets or the driving will be illegal again....for what that is worth...i and so many i know did stuff in our 20's that follows for years insurance and dmv wise....they watch young guys on bikes pretty good

I put some used tires on my kz550. I bought the bike not running and just wanted something on there that I could ride down the street while I was working on it. I put about a thousand miles on them and will probably buy brand new ones this summer.

Ive been riding the living hell out of the bike for a few days now i took off like a badass on my way home the other day. leaned way forward over the gas tank and spun the rear wheel all the way up the street :woohoo: Ill post a picture of the old tire and the new one. The new one isnt too bad but it aint too good either. Chain and sprockets are all new and adjusted properly. More then enough slack when the bike is sitting there. when you get on it it tightens up just enough but not too much. wheel is straight too. I dont want to have to buy a new setup again haha
