I can't seem to figure out how my rear brake pedal spring needs to be installed. I bought the bike without rear brake assembly and sourced a pedal and a spring, but cannot figure out how the spring goes on there. Maybe this is the wrong spring for the pedal? If anyone could point me in the right direction (or even better send a close-up pic) that would be great. Thx.

You have the spring on the wrong side. The round hook goes around the frame and the straight hook goes on the flat part where it's angled.

It can be a PITA to install.

Yes I have seen that, thx. The spring looks different though, I think it's just schematic here. Heard from a few others that it really needs to be forced on there so I'll try again tomorrow.

Be very carefull installing that spring,I got clocked in side of the head breaking outside of my ear by the meat tenderizer part of a brake pedal.
In my defense I was young and dumb and it was a chrome plated frame I was worried about scratching with the spring and wasn't thinking about the brake pedal till I landed on opposite side of my dining room wondering what the hell just happened!  :woohoo:

I think you picture shows that you have it on right. I have always put the straight end in the correct spot in the frame while the brake pedal is out and clocked at like 1 oclock. You cant have it out to far but just enought to clear the stop. Then just turn in down and in. I dont know, I just did one last week and was easy.

Great pics, thanks. But check out my pic, my frame looks different. Is that original? Or did the PO make some mods? Bike is a 79 LTD 1000.

Sorry, pic is turned sideways, but I think you can see that my pedal mount is welded to the lower exhaust hanger and not up to the frame like etbike3135's.

Wow yeah that is very different from my set up. Mine is an 80LTD frame is stock with stock pipes. I notice that the foot peg mounts on yours are different too. Perhaps it has been modified for those?
