squirrley rear end was created by flying dutchman
hey guys. 79 kz-1000-ltd. rear end feels squirrley under hard braking in a straight line. anybody have any ideas on what causes this?

Not sure if you are referring to bike in pics but mine did that with loose and broke spokes! Could be wheel bearing too. Wheel cocked in arm.

What tires; tire sizes; and air pressures are you using and how old are they? (Not Dunlops I hope) Ed

If you have a center stand, put your bike on it and check your swing arm for any side to side movement.
Also check the wheel while it is raised off of the ground.
This is not a good feeling to have.

Axle tight? Chain adjusters with same tension? Torque link tight? Bearings in good shape?

Are you applying enough front brake on hard stops? Some guys (not saying this is you) are reluctant to really lay on the front brake during hard stops even on good, dry asphalt. If the rear brake is used as the primary stopper it will break free rather easily as the bike's weight shifts to the front forks. I believe the braking ratio is something like 80% front 20% rear for quickest stops. Ed
