82 kz550 bent forks

i was given an 82 kz550 and it is clear that it was in a minor accident. the front forks are bent slightly inward but they seem to still line up with each other. i dont plan on riding very seriously, just around town and along the beach and such so i am wondering if it is unsafe to ride the bike the way it is. if so, do i have to buy new forks or can i have them straightened in a metal shop or something? i am new to motorcycles and help would be greatly appreciated.
