drained and bled my brake fluid and I suggest it is time that a lot of you old timers did the same. my rear bleeder valve was rusty and I cleaned it out with a cotter pin and carb cleaner. by old timers I mean for you to take that light heartedly.

Probably close to forever if it don't get contaminated.

But it always seems to get contaminated.

I believe most call for changing the brake fluid every two years, but few do.

Brake fluid absorbs moisture and degrades the performance, in humid climates its even worse. My street bikes get fresh fluid yearly, track bikes every few events. Its cheap insurance that the single biggest safety feature always be at peak performance.

One of the first things i notice about any bike i see is how the fluid looks, it tells me alot about the care and experience the owner posesses, the shit caked chain is another pet peeve of mine....

I date a new bottle of fluid and it has a max life span of one year as im in the desert.

I change it every 2 years and use a new bottle each time because in 2 years the old bottle will have absorbed moisture - even though the cap was tight. Ed

I remember something about opened containers of brake fluid going bad.
