BRAKES! was created by bromz
So here I go. Brand new master cylinder on front, Rebuilt calipers, new lines straight to the master with a double banjo bolt. Bleed them traditionaly open pump close release, lines were still soft. unmounted the calipers so bleeder was at high noon mounted the master level bleed them again got some air out still soft. bought a syringe and reverse bleed them. filled master 3 times from each caliper and still soft. When i squeeze the lever i can see the calipers clamping down well on the rotor but i think my lever is still soft. I bought the ss braided lines to get rid of the softness. Also no leaks i have had white paper towels under everything for days and everytime i walk by i rub my finger under everything with no fluid.I am lost please help. My bike is a 81 csr 1000. Are these brakes traditionaly soft?

I dont see anything wrong with what your doing , but the only thing i do is run a hose from your caliper bleed to a brake fluid bottle with the hose in the fluid. As for what you might be getting air bleeding back over to other side when you bleed one at a time at the master cylinder

old school w/ new look
02gsxr 1000 front forks w/6 piston calipers
06 gxsr 750 rear suspension
6 speed trans out of gpz550

What do you mean by soft ? is the brake lever hitting the handlebar when you pull it in ? sounds like you did every thing right, only thing I can think of, is sometimes an air bubble will get stuck in the three way brake line junction, try tapping it while bleeding the calipers

Hi had the same issue bromz, but mine is a single disk. After rebuilding my master cylinder and caliper, it was spongy. I first did the traditional pump lever and open bleeder nut method a number of times, followed by the gravity bleed method. Still spongy. Then my neighbor brought over his brake vacuum pump ( www.harborfreight.com/brake-bleeder-and-...-pump-kit-69328.html ) and the brakes felt better. But I have to wonder, with new rubber components from the rebuilt kits, do they need to break in (maybe expand a bit) for them to fully work. I may be off base, but mine got better with time. Maybe someone can comment on it.

yeah i have stiffness in the lever but i could prob pull it to the bar. juust not rock solid and that was what i was hoping for. maybe i can take it for a quick ride tomorrow(supposed to be in the upper 40s) and see if that helps shake them up i guess. I do not have a three way. got rid of it and took both calipers straight to the master with a double banjo. Thought that would get rid of a place where air would be trapped

I've had air get traped at the double banjo bolt. When this happens I apply pressure to the lever and loosen the banjo bolt to burp the system. It also helps to turn the bars full left when you park. Keep after this untillyou get a solid lever,ou are doing everything correctly.

get a clear vacuum hose on the bleeder valve and dip it into a container of brake fluid. open the valve and pump it repeatedly, when there is no air bubbles in the clear hose then you can close the valve.
