Not sure which kz1000 front wheel will fit my 76 kz900 a4. I want to do the change out so I can add disk brakes to the front. Also going to add disk to rear at some point. Been looking to see if anyone has a kit for this but I guess these bikes are to old for that. Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure I understand the question.. The Kz900 should already have a single disk brake up front. Are you wanting to add a second one?

Does your wire wheel have the four bolt holes on both sides to mount a dual disk set up? Stay with the wire wheels would be the easiest.

Wire wheel bikes bring more money.

It takes a bit of work to convert the A4 to rear disk with stock parts. I have done this before. I plan on going back to the drum brake as soon as my body shifts gears.

I believe in 1978 the front calipers were moved to the rear of the fork tubes.

Any front end up to 1980 should work. And some 650 parts. Some 650 front ends will have a smaller wheel(narrower)and a smaller axle.

Here is the thread.

Both fork tubes have brackets facing the front of the bike.

i do believe the 650 uses thinner discs. as said, you will be able to put an extra disc straight onto your existing wheel. i personally wouldnt opt for disc break rear, these old disc breaks can be poor in the wet and thats when the rear drum comes in mighty handy :-O

you will also need the larger reservoir or drill you existing one out to manage the extra fluid required for twin discs. sorry if you already know this :)

I've never had a problem with my KZ650-C1 rear disk (or dual front disks) in the wet, and in 54,000 miles I've ridden it in plenty of rain. Ed

its each to their own B) theres always another opinion, i used to do courier work on my 900a4 in the 80's and it rains a lot here in the UK, i had hairy moments with the disc front and the rear drum was always there.

To each their own.

Rear disc brakes are heavier than the drum rear and could be another source of problems. I have no problems locking up my rear tire with the stock drum. I'd recommend keeping with the stock drum, unless you're doing a modern brake conversion.
