Clip On handlebars for my KZ1000 LTD B4
04 Jan 2013 12:47
OK, Ladies and Gentlemen. I have tried to do a search on this website for clip-on handlebars, before I post, and haven't found much.
I am looking to replace my stock bars because I took a small jaunt of about 600 miles a couple of days ago and found that the angle of my current handlebars put me into a position that was less than comfortable.
I am seeking the facts, opinions, and informed advice of this forum to help me with this decision. Thank you in advance.

Can't see how clip-ons would make a 600 mile ride more comfortable - I would suspect it would be less comfortable.
You can get replacement handlebars (will need a new grip for clutch side too) from Z1 Enterprises in a variety of forms.
www.z1enterprises.com/ListItems.aspx?key...+7%2f8%22+handlebars
The Emgo Controls Catalog has nice pictures and specs on the different handlebar styles - see page 3:

If you are looking for long-ride comfort I believe you will find handlebars from a standard (non-LTD) model KZ1000, KZ650, or similar bike will be a big improvement over the LTD bars. In addition to being taller, the LTD bars are turned in more than the standard bars which can be hard on the wrists. The stock bars on my KZ650-C1 are very comfortable. For me, clip-ons would be torture on a long ride. I suggest you try this before buying clip-ons: go for a ride and reach down with your left hand and grasp the top portion of the left fork tube. This will put you closer to the clip-on riding position than your LTD handlebars. If that feels comfortable, maybe cilp-ons will work for you. Ed

In reference to the clip-on test. I've been doing this for some time now. So this is why I asked the question about the clip-on handlebars. In my humble opinion, this is a more comfortable position at speed and more maneuverable keeping your center of gravity lower. To each his own.
Thank you so far, for the suggestions. Please keep them coming. include pictures of your interpretations if you'd like.

Maybe a previous owner already changed your bike's bars. I believe the stock LTD bars were like the ones below; they looked like mini-ape hangers:

To each their own, I guess.
You can get clip-ons through Z1 Enterprises as well.

Thanks All for the comments. I have already cruised the offerings on the internet and know where to get clip-ons. Does anyone have experience with using them on a KZ1000. Like, why I should pay three hundred dollars for Roland Sands clip-ons vs. Z1 or any of the others out there. Thanks in advance.
