heavy duty chain? how many links do i need?

So i'm planning ahead for which chain to get for the project

On this chain , it says it's only good up to 400cc's. Is that for real? it says "heavy duty" lol, but only heavy duty enough for 400cc?

How about this one instead?

and am i right thinking that i need a 100 link chain? thanks guys.

Cheap chains are junk; buying them is a waste of money. I recommend you buy a D.I.D. O-ring chain and high quality front and rear sprockets. Lube the chain about every 300 miles or so with decent chain lube (I like Maxima Chain Wax, but there are other good lubes) and they will last an amazing number of miles (35 - 50k). Replace the chain & sprockets as a set or one will quickly wear out the other. Ed

I would agree, i would buy a d.i.d. chain. I bought a 12,000# chain for mine. I also bought a special made sidewinder rear sprocket thats garanteed to never wear out. If it does they will give you a new one for free.

Get a good quality O ring or X ring. Z1 always had the best prices on good chain.

FYI: the term "heavy duty" carries no legal significance, which is why the ultra cheapo flashlight batteries which are carbon-zinc always have it printed on them. It's typically the flag that means it's the cheapest of the cheap junk.

yes, and it hangs low.

thanks for the advice guys. I used to drive an r6, on that, I would definitely use an o-ring chain. But on this 440 build i just can't justify spending almost 100 bucks just on the chain. How about this standard D.I.D. chain?

How do i know how many links i need?

This bike isn't going to be a commuter and i'm not going to put thousands of miles on it a year. Even if I have to replace it twice as often, it will still be cheaper than the o-ring. Whether or not an o-ring chain is worth 3x as much for my application is the 90 dollar question...
