BMW s1000rr forks & wheels on 77 kz1k
11 Nov 2012 13:58
So I have a local line on everything to do a fork and wheels swap for an 11 bmw s1000rr. I'm not expecting anyone to have experience with this swap but help me if its as feasible as any other non zx6 type swap. I have helped out with some research provided below.
Front wheel location / suspension: Upside-down telescopic fork Ø 46 mm, compression and rebound stage adjustable
Length (mm): 740
Rate/Stroke: 120
Rear wheel location / suspension: Aluminum 2-sided swing arm, compression and rebound damping, high and low speed adjustable
Suspension travel front / rear: 4.7 in./5.1 in.
Wheelbase: 56 in.
Castor: 3.9 in. (98.5 mm)
Steering head angle: 65.99 deg.
Rim. front: 3.50 x 17 in.
Rim. rear: 6.00 x 17 in.
Tires, front: 120/70 ZR 17
Tires, rear: 190/55 ZR 17
I have attached spec links to see if that helps.

forks are 51mm and 749mm
Front tyre size 120/70 x 17
Rear tyre size 180/55 x 17

I should have noted I was going to get black banshee to make me a rear swing arm for the rear.

I'm not sure about the length of the forks, but I'm sure that they can be made to fit the frame. The swingarm pivot width can cause significant problems if it is too wide. See Porchev914's thread about fitting a single side swingarm to his KZ1000. That was too wide and he had to split his frame. My GSXR swingarm fit in fairly easily but the pivot width was just about perfect for my frame.

The fork length should be fine.
Oh I would probly use a zrx modified swing arm.`The BMW is a 17x6 rear vs the zrx12 5.5(180/55/17. Now the BMW uses a 525 chain and there are 520 conversions available which should help with chain clearance.

520 has 1/4" roller width
Difference of 1/16" roller width
With same brand and style of chain, 520 has 1/32" more clearance on each side than 530.
O'ring chains are wider than chains without o'rings.

Thanks for the help. I'm starting to lose traction with this BMW stuff unfortunately. The forks I was looking at are gone and my lead is non responsive.

Dont swet it. just about any front end will work. just pick something up on ebay. 94 to 97 zx9 forks r about as long as they come. but the newer stuff has radial brakes, which look cool.

I've always had a soft spot for the S1000RR. Took one for a test ride one day... there's something special about having 192 horsepower at the flick of a wrist. Scared me sh*tless in all honesty.
