Lowering Gauges

I am thinking of lowering the gauges on my Zee. Anyone else do this? If so, how did you do it and do you have any pics? Here is how it is now.

Some have done it on their 650s.
Same basic guages as the 1000s.
They drilled through the guage mounting brackets studs, then bolted the bracket with long bolts to the bottom of the steering yolk.

Not sure how the above two pictures guage's were done.

I did the same thing except ground the head off the stud, pushed it out and bought new bolts. You can re-use the rubber isolators too.

That set up is LTD. I cut up some stock parts, milled, drilled, filed down
then welded the aluminum together. This one won't have any rubber mounts for vibration.
But then it won't be driven very far anyway with struts. It's just a parking lot bike in
the summer, if anyone ever finishes it.

Get yourself some different bucket ears so you can drop the light bucket down too.

I love the looks. You got to just start and do it!

What did you put on your seat....its really shinney. If that Corbin is Leather and Vinyl....dont use any products that have Petroleum in them such as Armor All on leather....it will ruin the leather. Use a Leather cleaner / sealer that has Lanolin in it. I will look great and weather well and you wont slip off the seat.

I use lanolin leather wipes. I dont know why the seat looks hat way in pics. Pics taken in the shade look the same. Maybe it is the photographer :side:

I have seen a couple of KZ650's with the stock speedo and tach lowered, and was wandering how this is done. Does anyone know?

I've seen it as well, and I believe it's done by just bolting the guages to the bottom of the tripple clamp instead of the top?

I do believe that is correct, you'll have to either replace the stock headlight ears with aftermarket (like the emgo's that z1 sells CHEAP) or flip your headlight ears to give the room to lower the gauges with the stock mounting. The emgo headlight ears are only like $8 and provide a lot more adjustability than flipping the stock ears.
