The book says to add somewhere around 4.7oz, then also goes on to mention measuring with a piece of wire to be more accurate. Problem is the air gap is something like 400+mm. Is this only when you are draining and refilling the oil with the forks on the bike? I've used a syringe type device for other forks I've serviced, but the air gap was much smaller.

In my case I have the forks completely torn down for new seals. Can I just clean them out and add an exact amount to each fork and be done with it? What's the trick?

Thanks

Thats what I did. I had replaced my Fork Seals, then added the amount of oil listed in the manual to each fork. I forgot if it was 280 cm. or 380 cm. I remember looking through the manual and it had a picture of the stick down the tube method for checking the oil level, but I dont think the book said how far the oil level should be from the top ???
If you had the forks taken down and they are completely dry, just refill to the reccomended amount of oil in the manual. I did mine that way 3 months ago and the bike rides perfect, and still holding air.

Thanks for the reply. Seems logical and easy, that's what I'll do.

Any problems tearing the forks down Roland?? The reason I ask, is that I noticed one of mine leaving a ring up and down the fork this weekend. And since you have the same forks...
Ran great, then crappy, then great:blink: :(
But I rode it.

Hi Pat - the forks are simple. As long as you can get the front wheel off the ground you are set. Pull the wheel and fender off. Then loosen the upper and lower triple clamps and they slide right down.

Once you get the tubes apart you can start pulling the seal. I've done other fork seals with a large screwdriver wrapped with electrical tape, but for these I went ahead and bought the seal puller Jeff sells. Worked very well.

I'm also bumping up to a 15 weight oil. Can't wait to feel the difference since mine were both leaking and I had the see-saw effect too.

Post or U2U me if you need more info.
