best tire pressure?? Pirelli MT66 was created by cas.vanderwoude
hi folks,

I'm new to KZ1000 and reading through the manual for my new-to-me 1979 KZ1000 ltd, I see the recommended rear tire pressure is something like 24 psi. I have a pirelli MT66 130/90 x 16 on the rear. Can anyone help me with advice on the correct tire pressure? I live in Hawaii - its always warm here and I'm thinking 24 psi seems a bit low?

Motorcycles are like underpants - you should have one for each day of the week

It should say on the tire, my Pirelli sport demons recommend 42 lbs max. , I fill them to 40 lbs cold.

They warm up while riding so check and fill them first thing before you ride.

Are you running Tubes? If it's just you, no rear rack/ trunk or other weight, I'd try 28-32 and see how it feels at the different pressures. I carry a small air compressor made by Slime, and a digital pressure gauge for small adjustments on tires. 2 psi can be felt usually.

With a loaded pack and my wife I'm running some where around 350 lbs or a hundred pounds lighter if I'm solo

Am I wrong to keep them so high ?

I've been out of the loop for 20 years , back then there were mostly Dunlops, Continentals and Speed grips :woohoo:

The Dunlops got hard and Continentals buckeled, I liked how the Speed grips work on my buddies 74 900 but I never tried them.
