Shifting problems

I have a 82amazing kz650 its having problems catching second gear it kicks it right back out into neutral unless i dont let off the gas any suggestions?

yep...the gear dogs are worn...need to replace...no easy fix here....

Thats what i was thinking a buddy suggested a synthetic oil could hel but i wasn't sure i could even run synthetic in a bike that old

you need a trans guy.....you will see it clear as day when disassembled....you wont wonder if you did the right thing...will be able to see dogs are worn from across the room.....this is as common with KZ as mustard on a hotdog.

Yea. Ive done alot work on bikes but not in the tran. Region if i get the book and all the parts are they very hard to do?

the male dog engages with the indent of the gear on right. the leading edge of dog get worn down and a ramp is created....the same thing happens to the other edge. when you hammer on the bike it will ride up the worn (ramp) and jump out of gear. the pictue is of a race app and yours looks abit different.

Awesome thanks for your help. Can i get a smaller rear sprocket to help alittle with highway speeds?
